Vodafone Idea Limited (Vi) has announced that its 5G services are now live in 22 cities across 13 circles. The company plans to expand further to all 17 of its priority circles by September 2025.
This comes as Vi reported its strongest subscriber retention since the merger, with a decline of just 0.5 million users in Q1 FY26. This is nearly 90% lower compared to the 5 million losses seen in earlier quarters.
The company invested ₹24.4 billion in the quarter to expand its 4G and 5G network. It added more than 4,800 new 4G towers, improved network capacity by 36%, and increased coverage to about 84% of India’s population.
Vi also announced a strategic tie-up with AST SpaceMobile to deliver satellite-based mobile broadband. This service will allow customers to use normal smartphones for connectivity even in remote areas without extra equipment.
On the consumer side, Vi introduced several new plans. Its Non-Stop Hero Plan offers unlimited data, while the Vi Max Family Plan now comes with Netflix and a 120GB monthly data pool. Vi also remains the only operator to offer unlimited night data and data rollover up to 400GB.
The company reported a revenue of ₹110.2 billion in Q1 FY26, up 4.9% year-on-year. Average revenue per user (ARPU) rose by 14.9% to ₹177, while data traffic grew by more than 10%.
In the enterprise segment, Vi launched Vi Business CCaaS, an AI-powered contact centre solution. It also signed India’s largest smart metering contract with Genus Power for 5 million meters, highlighting its growing role beyond traditional telecom services.
During the call, outgoing CEO Akshaya Moondra thanked investors for their support over the years. He handed over leadership to Abhijit Kishore, who said his focus will be on revenue growth and customer experience as Vi continues its turnaround journey.
